This is a story about a boy named Christopher Rowe. He is apprenticed to a great alchemist named Benedict Black. No one knows much about Benedict Black, but he harbors a secret that can destroy a city in minutes.
People take to the streets complaining of many deaths due to a mysterious cult, and suddenly Christopher loses his master to the cult as well. Because of this he embarks on an adventure to destroy the cult. Along the way he discovers that the people he chooses to trust are not always the right choices.
I would recommend this book to people who are at least 9, and understand that the pace is really fast, and always changing. There are many parallel mysteries in this book, and if you can figure them out than I would be impressed since I could not unravel them until the end of this fabulous book.
