#12 A Wrinkle in Time

This book was written by Madeleine L’Engle. She has also written the other books the the Wrinkle in Time series, and many other books and series, too. This particular book takes place in the early 21 century, in what you would call a normal town, for example a friendly neighborhood or in my case Bloomington, Indiana. This book is now a movie.

There are three main characters. The most important of them is Meg. She is bullied by most people, and thought of as an odd ball. Another one of the characters is Charles Wallace. He is Megs younger brother. He is also thought of as an odd ball. The last character is a boy named Calvin. He is a jock at school but has a sad life at home in a poor family with a lot of kids. Together these three will have to face IT, an evil entity that destroys everything normal.

On a stormy night, Charles and Meg encounter a strange lady who takes them on an adventure with Calvin. Her names is Mrs. Whatsit, and her friends names are Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which. They show Calvin, Meg, and Charles the universe, and how IT is slowly taking it over and why entities like Mrs. Whatsit decided to fight back against IT. Soon after they reach a planet that is kind of the headquarters for IT. When they land on the planet they find out that Charles and Meg’s dad is on this planet and when they free him they end up losing Charles, who at the moment is the most powerful of them. After they escape Meg is wounded. When she is healed she realizes that she is the only one that can save Charles. As she returns to the planet for the final confrontation she realized that the one thing humans have that IT doesn’t is love. With this in mind she saves Charles and stops IT, possibly permanently.

I enjoyed this book, but I would have enjoyed it more if my parents had recommended it to me. Instead my teacher made me read it. I enjoyed it more, though, than I would have because he – my teacher – is an excellent teacher and an even better producer for our drama club. I would recommend this book to anyone in general.
